Proverbs 15:13 NIV

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.”

Few things are more fun than the face of a child when their heart is filled with joy. Christmas morning, birthday celebrations, dad getting home from work, whatever it is the expression and squeals of joy are priceless. Solomon knows about that and in this verse he reminds us that the cheerfulness on our face speaks of the deep joy in a believers soul. I must confess that I have to work at not being frustrated by believers who seem to believe that a dour look reflects a very spiritual follower. They look as though the world needs to know that their life is hard and everyone needs to respect their struggle. You might be able to tell that I don’t have much patience for those kinds of Christians. The world needs to see that God’s children realize that their coming reward is unimaginably amazing. They also should reflect that no matter how hard they want to believe their circumstances are they still have it better than most of the world. Believer, your worst day is by far better than the non-Christians best day. It is not hypocritical to show joy when life gets hard. It is actually a recognition of life from the eternal perspective which is where we should live. When things are hard and we show joy the world notices that there is something different in our story and they will want to know what it is. Today live in the joy God has gives you and be sure your face is aware. #BeTheEdge
