“The Lord detests the thoughts of the wicked, but gracious words are pure in his sight.”
We know from James that sin begins as a desire and moves on from there to become full-blown rebellion. Here, Solomon lets us know that God knows what the wicked think about is destined to hurt His kingdom, and He has no patience for it. It goes beyond what the evil do. It is also the plans of their hearts. It should cause all of us to pause as we recognize that God knows our thoughts. It is a powerful distinction that, although the devil has the ability to know our sinful bends and weak places, he cannot read our minds. That is a part of the omniscience of God that separates Him from all others in the universe. He alone knows and sees all. Gracious words come from kind hearts that most often belong to Him. His Spirit calls His followers to speak graciously in a world that often seems bent on verbally tearing down and destroying others. James and Paul both spent significant time talking about the power of the mouth to either curse or bless. Today, pray that your thoughts translate into words of blessing. #BeTheEdge
