Proverbs 15:4 NIV

“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”

Jesus occasionally touched the person He was healing but most often He spoke healing into their story. Both physical and spiritual healing were found in the words of Jesus. You know what? They still are. Yep, God’s word today is living and active. They do not just sit in the pages of your old bible. They leap off the page, bury themselves deep in our spirit and bring healing to deep, dark places we didn’t even realize existed. They also change, transform us. How we think, how we love and who we are is all healed through God’s word. Sound a bit mystical? It is. It most certainly is. God spoke the universe and this world into existence. If that’s not a bit mystical you need a new definition of the term. Another truth about the power of our words is that it changes not only the hearer but the speaker. You see when we speak kindness or encouragement we become more encouraging and kind to people. When we make perverse comments we reflect a perversity that takes a deeper hold in our heart and mind. You have certainly realized the old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” is false. Oh sticks and stones can produce great hurt in a persons life but words can damage for a lifetime. If you’re like me you don’t need to think to hard to remember a time you we’re damaged by a comment, criticism or critique. It stings. Too many young people today consider ending their lives over harassing comments than they do physical pain. Today speak words of life and healing in a world desperately seeking them. #BeTheEdge

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” James 1:26 NIV
