Proverbs 16:14 NIV

“A king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but the wise will appease it.”

In the original language we get a picture of many of the Kings allies standing by at the ready. The moment they pick up on a signal from the king that he is angered or disappointed with someone they act to bring about swift punitive judgment on his behalf. It is so sudden that the offender is basically left without the opportunity to mitigate or appease the king. The wise person knows to avoid angering the king all together. They have enough sense and awareness of what the king will respond poorly to to be sure they do not cross him. Although the King of kings is also know to response with a vengeance to sin and those things that will hurt His children He has the benefit, or maybe better stated we have the benefit, of His unsearchable depth of grace and love. We are reminded by Peter of His patience as well. Unlike the king in Solomon’s description, God does not need others standing around trying to discern His anger and acting on His behalf. I’m am regularly disappointed by how many of God’s followers seem to believe He needs them to exercise judgment and punishment on those they perceive offend Him. Perhaps another’s actions offend God, I’m sure lots do including mine, but scripture does not place the task of judging and disciplining them on us. Today focus your heart on pleasing your King and allow Him to handle the others. #BeTheEdge

“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.” Romans 2:1 NIV
