Proverbs 16:16 NIV

“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!”

We read this, nod thoughtfully, make a spiritually pensive face and try to look very solemn in agreement with this profound truth. Then we resume pursuing wealth. Now as I’ve said before there is nothing wrong with wealth. Solomon wrote this while sitting on a pile of it. He was also known for his wisdom. So unlike me he had a fair view of what it meant to have both and could evaluate which he would rather possess if he had to choose. His words here really convey that wisdom is much better, actually he is saying much, much better. He is awed by the disproportionate degree of difference between the two. A friend is in a bit of a struggle with someone over money. I am working with them to find the balance between wisdom in dealing with that person and protecting a few assets. Solomon is basically letting us know that life will present lots of opportunities to choose what to emphasize or pursue. Understanding the difference between what God offers verses what the world treasures is the key to peace and joy in our journey. Today seek wisdom and watch God meet all your needs just as He promised. #BeTheEdge
