“The highway of the upright avoids evil; those who guard their ways preserve their lives.”
People who know me know I’m a movie guy. I like movies. The one genre I don’t particularly care for is horror. However I do know that many horror movies begin when a character makes a wrong turn, goes to the wrong door or walks down the wrong path. It is a great way to send an immediate signal to the viewer to expect anything and prepare for it to not be good. This subtle message sets up the movie watcher for the writer. After that almost anything finds them in a state of heightened anxiety where everything makes them jump or scream. It is a basic tool for horror writers. This may be fun for horror enthusiasts but in real life what seems safe and predictable is always a better life choice. No matter how much we walk the straight path God will provide exciting surprises and staying on His highway does not mean there will be no twists and turns. There may even be some potholes and a few rickety bridges and dark tunnels. The difference is our traveling companion or guide. Even those who deny it are either traveling God’s route or Satan’s. When God leads we are with the one who designed the roads, plotted out the journey and loves us beyond belief, literally. When satan chooses the roads we are doomed. He is trying to get us to drive off a cliff. The choice is not hard. So why is it so hard? Pride. Sometimes we truly want to believe we are in charge. When we realize we are only in charge of who we allow to be in charge it becomes easier to choose wisely, most of the time. Today, as the corny song says, let Jesus take the wheel. #BeTheEdge
