Proverbs 16:9 NASB

“The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 NASB

A few months ago, I heard Dr. Tim Thompson, former pastor of Frazier Methodist Church, preach, and at the end he gave some practical ways to incorporate his message into our lives. One of his suggestions was to begin each day asking God for His guidance throughout the following 24 hours. An important part of that was giving Him permission, not that He needed it, to “interrupt my plans with (His).” Rather than ignoring interruptions or seeing them as a nuisance you would embrace them as opportunities to follow Him. You can see in this passage that we are encouraged to plan. As reflections of Him we adopt His example of carefully planning, and more of us would benefit from doing that. However, with our planning we continue to understand that our plans are always subject to God’s higher way. We pursue God’s goals knowing that as we plan, “God is able to do abundantly beyond all we can hope or imagine.” Since adopting this attitude and daily prayer, I have watched God “interrupt” my days with amazing opportunities that I truly could never have imagined. God doesn’t desire to disappoint us by diverting our plans – it is always His purpose to go above and beyond them. Today, plan well, execute with excellence, but stay aware that God may be at work to bless or redirect your efforts. #BeTheEdge
