Proverbs 17:1 NIV

“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.”

The Swedish idiomatic expression maskrosbarn (dandelion child) refers to the capacity of some children to survive and even thrive in whatever circumstances they encounter, in much the same way that dandelions seem to prosper irrespective of soil, sun, drought, or rain. A makrosbarn is someone who has a tough childhood and still turns out alright, like a dandelion breaking through asphalt. Obviously this actually translates quite well, but doesn’t seem to be commonly used in English. I think it’s quite a striking image. In the US we call them Orchard Children. The orchard person is probably the opposite of those who are referred to as “snow flakes” today. Without getting political I believe we can all agree a lot of challenging things have happened in the last few years, but there is a very real light in the future. Vaccines are being given, and regardless of the exact rollout it is pretty well agreed that in the not to distant future we will be very well toward some definition of herd immunity. The political situation will be settled to some extent. Racial issues will continue to be addressed, whatever that truly looks like. And most importantly God will still be securely on His throne. We have been battered no doubt. But like the dandelion kids God has carried us through and will show us how to thrive by His definition. Perhaps as you gather with family and friends, you can do it with peace, hope, joy, and true celebration. We all need that. Today seek peace and pursue it, especially with those in your immediate tribe. #BeTheEdge

“…seek peace and pursue it.” Psalms 34:14b NIV
