Proverbs 18:14 NIV

“The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?” ‬‬

This is a powerful truth. That being said we have all seen this in the life of someone. I saw this when my wife was nearing the end of her cancer battle. Her body was riddled with the disease, pain wracked her throughout. She had been cut on, parts removed and others drained. At the very worst I remember sitting on our back porch and her quietly saying, “I can’t believe someone would miss out on this intimacy with God because they’re afraid of the pain.” I heard her but it took a full 60 seconds of pondering what she said to get the impact of her quiet reflection. It wasn’t judgmental or even projected on anyone else or their journey. It was a deep recognition of where she was at that very moment in her spirit. I admit I wasn’t there. Here Solomon is reflecting that a person with a healthy, deep, strong presence of God in their spirit can endure much physical struggle. By contrast with a broken spirit a person not only struggles emotionally but physical challenges seem devastating as well. The body can rely on a strong spirit but the broken spirit offers empty comfort and fortitude. Today be sure your spirit is closely connected to your Savior and find strength for the journey. #BeTheEdge
