Proverbs 18:2 NIV

“Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.”

It’s amazing that even though this was written almost 3,000 years ago, like so much of scripture it is perhaps even more relevant today. If you doubt me, turn on any cable news channel or look at social media. For that matter, sit for a while in the office break room. The bad advice and ignorant opinions I have heard (and shared) over the years are substantial. The term going off half-cocked comes to mind when I consider these kinds of conversations. Sharing an uninformed opinion is definitely foolish. Listening to that opinion and acting on it is even more foolish. One of my family members has an opinion on everything—and he is usually correct in his understanding of whatever the subject is. We kid him that Google was the worst invention for him, because now when he states an opinion, he is instantly fact-checked. It’s become a fun family game at get-togethers. Seriously though, too often God’s truth has been misrepresented and shared as fact. Often the listener has no idea whether it is right—or how to check it out. I seldom recommend resources, but there are some great ones available that are free and online. If you want advice ask your pastor or give me a shout. There is no excuse other than arrogance or laziness for being the person Solomon is referencing in this verse. Today, know the Truth. #BeTheEdge
