“The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly.”
Solomon wants us to know that without the Holy Spirit working on our hearts wealth can cause it to harden, especially toward the poor. I recently watched a conversation on social media between two people I know have solid walks with the Lord. They staked out very opposite sides on a social issue regarding dealing with the poor. Without taking a political position I was struck by how firm and hard one was toward the genuinely struggling poor. They quickly labeled them all lazy and looking for a handout. There is no doubt some of that is true on occasion however, to be so dismissive with everyone in that situation was definitely hard and unfair. Two thoughts. First it is not our job to judge. Perhaps much more importantly we are to operate with a heart of compassion and gratitude. We lived lives of spiritual bankruptcy before being rescued. Living a life of grace will always reflect our savior. Today allow the Holy Spirit to keep your heart tender. #BeTheEdge
