Proverbs 18:7 NIV

“The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives.”

I’m amazed that as I follow a pattern of writing on the specific verse for the specific day and month throughout the year how many times they follow a pattern. I’m not claiming that is supernaturally inspired, just fascinating. Here again Solomon challenges us to be aware of whose mouth we are listening to and what impact their words have on our lives. More people earn a reactionary punch to the face by careless words spoken than any other cause. That’s a somewhat minor glimpse of the undoing he refers to here. I say minor because often the consequences of foolish talk is much worse than a bloody or even broken nose. Broken marriages, ruined businesses and perhaps worse than all others, deeply damaged individual spirits all can be the result of foolish words. I have witnessed the heart wrenching impact of misspoken words or even words with evil intent on both the hearer and the speaker. Very often the one who so foolishly and thoughtlessly speak the words suffers the longest and the most. I have been with people who often kick themselves for stupid comments. I have done it too often myself. The real difference is between those who realize the stupidity in an ill conceived remark and quickly apologize and make it right and those who don’t. We are all prone to them. Today, stay quiet, guard your mouth and when necessary repent of your wrong words and make it right. #BeTheEdge

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” James‬ ‭1:26‬ ‭NIV‬‬
