“Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool.” Proverbs 19:1 NASB
Everything from fake sanitizer to fake masks are being sold to an unsuspecting public. Price gouging claims are rampant nationwide. There is no shortage of people trying to rip off others to make a quick buck by playing off the fears of panicked innocent people. Most of us read those stories with justified disgust and outrage. In the same way, we watched Harvard receive millions of dollars from the first virus stimulus bill even though they have a $40.9 billion endowment. They gave it back after understandable public outcry. None of that was a reflection on our personal integrity, though. In some cases, it made others feel ok about their small manipulation of the process. I visited with a business leader a few weeks ago who laughingly told me about how he was creatively (read deceptively) making his case to receive government bailout funds for his business he didn’t need and was not really entitled to. When I pointed that out, he quickly changed the subject. Be careful that the chance to get away with something doesn’t become an excuse to do it. Today, check your motives and walk with integrity before the Lord. He’s the One who matters. #BeTheEdge
