Proverbs 19:14 NIV

“Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

Solomon clearly believes that there are many things parents can pass on to their children, some good and some not so good. However, God’s divine hand is a powerful gift in certain areas like our spouse. It really boils down to the difference between stuff and relationships. God certainly provides material things in our lives. When we are young we look to our families to provide our physical needs. From day one we are dependent on God for our familial relationships. We don’t pick our parents. For that matter we don’t choose anyone in our family until it comes to proposing or saying yes. It is a foolish person who lets their parents or friends drive their selection of a mate. The days of the dowery being the most important decision maker for a spouse is pretty well over. God stands ready for His children to seek His help in finding friends who will help us grow in our relationship with Him. He understands both who we need in our life as well as who we don’t. He refers often throughout scripture not only to the impact of our choice of a spouse but also of the influence of who we spend our time with. Today be sure you are surrounding your journey with God’s children. #BeTheEdge
