Proverbs 19:21 NIV

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 NIV

Judas died a very broken and disappointed man. Jesus was not the Savior-King that he wanted Him to be. There is great speculation that the reason he sold out Jesus to the religious leaders who eventually crucified Him was that He was trying to force Jesus to act. He was wanting and expecting Jesus to lead an armed revolt to take over the throne. He wanted, as many were looking for, a kingdom to be political and military to take over and rule here on earth. He totally missed it. I suspect that many of us have been guilty of similarly trying to make Jesus who He is not. Might I suggest that that will never work and will always leave us dissatisfied and confused. Jesus is who Jesus is. The good news is that in spite of who we would try to make Him, He is not going to change for our whims. That is good news because, in our limited view from below, we are prone to miss His greater, deeper agenda, and that would be bad. Think through biblical history: Joseph, Noah, Jonah, Abraham, Moses, and Sarah, how many would have totally messed up God’s greater plan if they were able to force God to do what they wanted in the moment? Today, as you ponder the wisdom of a baby in a manger and a Savior on a cross, thank God that He is Sovereign…and we are not. #BeTheEdge
