Proverbs 20:15 NIV

“Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.”

If something appears in the Bible one time, is it important? Of course. In these devotions, I have occasionally mentioned that God wastes no words. Every word in Scripture comes from the eternal Creator of the universe. It should be all we need. If something is repeated over and over again in Scripture, then, my goodness, how incredibly important and valuable must it be to our lives? Solomon talked often about knowledge—the power of it, the need for it, and, as in this verse, the value of it. Jesus spoke about God’s wisdom and His knowledge as well. Peter talked about the need for repetition, even in the most basic truths of Scripture. In this verse, Solomon again reminds us that nothing in this world is more valuable than God’s Word, His truth, and His knowledge. It does make me wonder why I don’t spend more time in God’s Word than I do. Whatever amount of time that is, it could and should always be more. That is probably the simplest truth in this verse for all of us. God’s knowledge is more valuable than anything else we pursue in life. I would even go so far as to say that our pursuits are better and more effective the more time we spend gaining God’s wisdom and knowledge. Today, pursue the wealth of the knowledge of the Eternal. #BeTheEdge

“So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.” 2 Peter 1:12 NIV
