“It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.”
Yesterday was election day in our area. I hope your people won, and I hope they have a desire to serve. Even more importantly, I hope they feel called by God to represent His love for people as they serve in that role. However, whoever won, I’m glad this part of the election cycle is over. I used to get tired of all the negative politicking that took place. Now, more than anything, it makes me sad to see the whining, complaining, and arguing that goes on. Social media becomes even more poisonous than it typically is during this season. More than ever before, I look for the people running who say very little about the other person and focus instead on what they believe they can do to serve those they represent, or those I know personally who truly feel called by God to serve in those positions. Perhaps most disappointing of all are the people I know who love God, are active in their church communities, and yet still seem to choose to pick fights with people who disagree with their politics. Don’t misunderstand me. I feel very strongly about our political choices and responsibilities in this country. I have a degree in political science, and I am somewhat of a political junkie. But I’ve learned that politicians come and go, while our words and actions in every area of life, including politics, reflect — for better or worse — the God we love and serve. Today, avoid strife, walk away from quarrels, and be kind. #BeTheEdge #LoveJesusBeKind
