Proverbs 21:1 NIV

“In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.”

When I read this, I think, great for the king. I mean, it really is great for us when God controls the king’s or our leaders hearts to that degree as well. Obviously, if the King of the universe is in control like that, we will all be better off. But what I really think when I read this verse is: I want my heart to be that pliable and fluid to the leading of God through His Holy Spirit. But it’s not. I hate to confess that, but at times I resist God’s plan for my life. I resist His work in my life and through my life far too often. You would think by this age I would know better, but I don’t. Maybe to some extent I have learned—hopefully—but overall, I know God still finds resistance in me too often to the things He desires me to do, to say, or even to not do and not say at times. I long to be like a stream of water in His hands, or as we see in another part of Scripture, a stream of living water that flows from His Son and through me to a thirsty and desperate world. Don’t you? Of course you do. All of us who belong to God long to be exactly what He wants, when He wants, and where He wants. That’s why we are here. Today, let Him flow. #BeTheEdge
