Proverbs 21:3 NIV

“To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”

Simple yet profound. It’s been said, this verse “emphasizes that God values a life of integrity and fairness over religious rituals.” A life of integrity and fairness is easier to live and enjoy than one filled with religious behavior. Acting religiously is exhausting, and it’s also meaningless. Loving people and treating them with kindness really isn’t that hard. What is hard is the false assumption that being religious and living an uptight, legalistic life somehow impresses others or God. It doesn’t. It is also exhausting. Sacrifice is important, but it does not impress God; it can enhance and improve our journey. When done for our family or loved ones, it can be admirable, but mostly it is a way to serve those we love. God is not opposed to sacrifice. Giving His Son on a cross for our sins is the greatest example of sacrifice ever seen. It is only when we rely on sacrifice to the exclusion of doing what is right and treating people justly that God is unimpressed. Today, do what is right. #BeTheEdge

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 NIV
