“The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.”
We had the 4th annual Cam Lanier, Be The Edge Challenge Golf Tournament over the last couple of days. It is a very fun and predominantly lighthearted event. Occasionally, we have some golfers who really want to win. I don’t blame them because the top prizes are pretty amazing! In the midst of that, we try to keep things lighthearted by coming up with some creative rules. These involve throwing golf balls out of sand traps and replaying shots. It is fun to watch golfers be playfully competitive as they deal with the rules and scores. It is a reality that believers participating in a fundraising event for a very cool nonprofit cause will poke at each other. I must confess that sometimes I do a little poking myself. There is a playful deviousness that we engage in during this event. That is not what Solomon is talking about, but it is fun to see some of the truth of this verse harmlessly played out as people strictly abide by the rules while being gently challenged about their obedience to them, especially the creative ones! When Solomon talks about those who are guilty of deviousness, the results can be costly. It is beautiful to watch the innocent operate uprightly and receive their reward as well. Solomon challenges us today to consider whether the conduct of our lives and businesses reflects innocence and integrity. The result will be a blessing not only to those who operate that way but also to those who interact with them. As far as the golf event goes, I think we will always have fun with the rules. As far as life goes, I think the consequences are powerful and can be devastating. Today, live innocently and uprightly, and watch God’s blessings. #BeTheEdge
