“Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.”
The goal here is not just to receive guidance but to receive wise guidance. There is no shortage of people with opinions—you probably know an old saying or two about that. Sifting through the various voices to find those who represent the voice of God, speaking truth into your journey, is vital. Job, Rehoboam, and others in the Bible are examples of those who received bad counsel. Life provides endless examples as well. Many have lost relationships or money because of bad advice. When seeking wise counsel, look for people who walk intimately with God, are well-versed in His Word, and have some age and experience. These are great starting points. While Solomon speaks of getting multiple wise counselors involved in planning for war, we live in a constant state of spiritual warfare. The advice in this passage is just as vital—perhaps even more so—for spiritual battles. In the heat of the moment, often referred to as the “fog of war,” it can be easy to become confused or overwhelmed by emotions. Gathering wise people who are not entangled in the personal nature of the struggle is invaluable. Ultimately, it is God we want and need to hear from. For that to happen, and for victory to be won, we need multiple Godly voices speaking into our journey. Today, find them, then listen. #BeTheEdge
