Proverbs 24:9 NIV

“The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.”

I had a conversation over lunch with some business leaders the other day. The subject of little children and their behavior came up. After a story or two one of them made the comment that anyone who doesn’t believe we all enter the world with a fallen and sinful nature must not have raised kids. In reflecting on that later I thought about Adam and Eve and all of our inheritance from their decision to bite the apple. In this verse Solomon is reflecting on that deeper sin nature of mankind. We are incapable apart from the presence of God and His Spirit of truly Holy thoughts and actions. Everything in those separated from God comes from a place of selfishness, lostness, blindness or brokenness. Scripture clearly tells us that our best deeds are like filthy rags in the presence of our Holy God. This is painful to grasp. We see nice people who do not claim Christ as there savior. There is no doubt that all mankind was created in God’s image and His spark is in each person until they allow Satan to snuff it out. I’m sure, like me, you have watched someone attempt a good deed only to taint it with a need for recognition or at least something in return. The Christ follower should do our Fathers will expecting nothing in return because our acts are done in gratitude to Him for all His blessings on our lives, the foremost being salvation. It can be challenging at times to tell the follower from the lost. Thankfully it is not our job to judge. We are to pursue God and flee sin. The result is a life that shines the light on Him. Today live a life that represents God. #BeTheEdge
