Proverbs 26:11 NIV

“As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” Proverbs 26:11 NIV

This verse vividly describes God’s perspective of a fool. (Peter gets even more direct in relation to teachers and leaders of today in 2 Peter Chapter 2. Take the time to read it.) There is a depth of ugliness reserved specifically for those foolish enough to encounter the truth and light of God and leave it or ignore it. God wants us to understand what a nasty and awful experience takes place as we encounter God and walk away. Those people foolishly think that what the world offers apart from God and His righteousness is desirable and to be pursued. Very much like Jesus’ description in Matthew 5 of a light with a bucket over it, is the picture of a dog vomiting and eating that vomit believing it is a desirable feast. From Solomon this is “an intentionally repulsive simile. It juxtaposes a fool with the contemptible dog; his destructive folly with the dog’s vomit; and the fool’s incorrigibility with the dog’s repulsive nature to return to its vomit, to sniff at it, to lick it, and finally to eat it.” (Waltke) Today, see the sin that pursues your soul for the nastiness it is, and follow God alone. #BeTheEdge
