Proverbs 26:21 NIV

“As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife.”

The obvious truth behind this verse is that adding wood to a fire will make it bigger, hotter and, depending on the circumstances, more dangerous. The same is true about hot embers. They are close to cooling off until fresh charcoal is placed amongst them. Then the heat grows. Add a person who is prone to fighting to a disagreement or dispute and the battle between those involved gets hotter, darker and more dangerous to all involved. The thing about a quarrelsome person is that they are not that difficult to find. I have been intrigued by the number of people on social media lately who refer to posts they have removed because of the backlash they received. There seems to be no topic or subject from politics to sports to music that there isn’t someone, and usually many someone’s, waiting to pounce on every opinion and try and inflame an argument. God loves peacemakers. Jesus is the ultimate peacemaker. Today be a peacemaker. #BeTheEdge
