“Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.”
I recently watched a businessman try to slip something past an unsuspecting group of people, knowing it was wrong. The group was unsuspecting because they completely trusted this person. The reason they were caught was that God was looking out for the group, and the deception was discovered just before it could be carried out. As a result, the individual ended up facing a more difficult journey than if they had been honest in the first place. Their plan consumed them. Solomon warns us to be honest and to operate with integrity—not only because it honors God, but also because it protects us from the inevitable consequences of sin and deception. I once had a friend who used to joke that his spiritual gift was the “gift of clever deception.” Of course, that’s neither a fruit of the Spirit nor a gift from God. While it may have been a cute joke, it’s unfortunate that some people take pride in being able to deceive unsuspecting and trusting individuals. The real tragedy occurs when it’s one of God’s children who does this. I built a house and made a movie with people like this. It was painful, frustrating, and very disappointing, to say the least. While I haven’t necessarily seen them fall into their own pit or have the boulder roll back on them—yet. I’m certainly not wishing for that to happen. However, God’s Word should not be ignored. It will prove 100% true. Today, walk with integrity in all things. #BeTheEdge
