Proverbs 26:4 NIV

“Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him.”

I love how Jesus dealt with questions. I mean I really love it. For instance He never answered a question that should not have been asked of Him in the first place. Brilliant! Remember in Matthew 21 when the religious leaders asked Him by whose authority He did what He was doing and He answered with a question that if they would answer His, He would answer theirs? Needless to say they walked away. Or how about Luke where it says Herod “plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.” Seriously, this was life or death time and knowing what He was here for led Him to stay silent. There are so many lessons In understanding Jesus and His responses to questions and questioners that we could devote an entire sermon series or book to them. One of my favorites was when the famous Samaritan women at the well asked Him about whose religion was correct. She told Him her people worshipped on one mountain and His people worshiped on another. She wanted him to declare who was right? In answering He refused to get into an argument about religion and instead pointed to God as Spirit and Truth. We live in a world that loves to ask questions, to manipulate answers or create division and arguments. Maybe they want to create doubt. Whatever the reason Solomon makes it clear that the result is we become like them. Jesus models that sincere questions get sincere answers others get ignored. Today raise the bar on your conversations by reflecting Jesus rather than “a fool”. #BeTheEdge
