Proverbs 26:8 NIV

“Like tying a stone in a sling is the giving of honor to a fool.” Proverbs‬ ‭26:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Solomon is kind of on a rant about fools in this chapter. He’s not particularly fond of how they operate. For good reason. Imagine the outcome of David and Goliath if David had tied to stone in his sling shot before confronting the giant. Let’s just say we would not reference that story when being the underdog in a sporting event. It is not only a silly picture it is outright stupid. Solomon unabashedly paints this as the picture of trusting a foolish person with any important task, here handling a message. I’m often overwhelmed that God allows us to carry His eternal message of redemption and reconciliation to a lost and dying world. It has been said that you may be the only bible someone ever reads or the only Jesus someone ever sees. That’s a big deal. One reason some people hate Christianity is because all they have seen is men and women with their stone tied in their slingshot. No power, no effect, no relevance or real use. An impotent faith is not a real faith. A position of honor or recognition in God’s work is not to be pursued but when achieved though God powered living it becomes a platform for witness and a light in the darkness. Today untie the string and let God’s message shine through your life. #BeTheEdge

“…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Jesus
