Proverbs 27:2 NASB

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.” Proverbs 27:2 NASB

Typically, this verse is seen as a caution. Well, actually it is, but I want to take it a step further. Many years ago, I heard a speaker at a minister’s conference say that the greatest gift we give one another is our faithfulness to God. He followed that by saying the greatest kick in the gut we give another is our lack of faithfulness. He then shared a story of two old friends he had been out of touch with for years. He received a report on how one had been and continued to be faithfully serving the Lord in ministry. He rejoiced. Soon after that, he heard about the other friend who had left his wife and children and renounced his faith. It was an incredibly painful report. Yesterday, I pondered the many brothers and sisters of the faith that I have walked with over my 40+ years in ministry. Many were young men and women during those early years. I celebrate the reports of Shane, Rick, Russ, Mike, Bill, Lynn, and hundreds of others. I have good tears as I reflect on so many. Out of respect I won’t name the ones my heart hurts for. The truth of that speaker’s statements was powerful. I will do as Solomon says and praise those long traveled faithful servants of God’s Kingdom I have known. It is a small gift from me to them for the great gift of their journey in faithfulness to me…and you. Today, speak well of God’s faithful travelers. #BeTheEdge

“For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:3-4 NASB
