Proverbs 28:1 NIV

“The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”

Fleeing doesn’t always mean running away, at least not physically. Sometimes, fleeing is avoiding the truth when you are living a lie. Sometimes, fleeing is deflecting or pushing blame elsewhere when it squarely belongs on you. And sometimes, fleeing does mean literally changing your physical location to get away from what you have done or said. Solomon tells us that often these things are done even when no one knows, cares, or is bothering to pursue us or what we know should be the right thing to do. The part of this verse we should celebrate and cling to is the fact that when we live God’s way, in the midst of His call, we can live boldly. The Lion of Judah is a Jewish and Christian symbol that represents strength, bravery, and nobility. The term “Lion of Judah” is used 150 times throughout scripture and even refers at times to Jesus himself. I love that image, somewhat confusingly echoed in the unflinching image of Aslan, the lion in C.S. Lewis’s *The Chronicles of Narnia*. Aslan is a great depiction not only of Jesus but also of a bold and righteous lion. The world needs those today. God calls and equips us to be those today. Living righteously, and therefore without fear of discovery or punishment, what freedom there is in walking in integrity and being a lion. #BeTheEdge
