Proverbs 28:5 NIV

“Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.” ‬‬

A few days ago we watched this truth played out on our televisions. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard the question asked, “how could someone do something so evil.” Mental illness is certainly mentioned and is without a doubt a part of the explanation. Anger, bullying, abuse and every other form of wickedness that can be  perpetrated on a person is used to explain it as well. Whatever the cause we can say for sure that the individual did not have a true understanding of what was right. Likewise many things less shocking but also wrong are done by people who have lost the ability to understand right from wrong. Their conscience is seared by behavior, training and a lifestyle lived in rebellion to their creator God. I have watched two very distinct approaches to this act and all evil acts. One is an explanation of all the sociological influences on our world today. The other which Solomon clearly identifies in the second half of this verse is that our nation, or at least the evil actors in our nation, have walked away from the God of truth, justice and love. As we pursue and seek God the by product is Christlike men and women. With an infection we use antibiotics. With a virus we don’t. That’s my very limited medical understanding. You would not expect the wrong medicine to heal an illness. For a sociological illness we need a sociological response. For a financial illness we need a financial response. For a spiritual illness we need a spiritual response, we need God. Today allow God to cure what ails you in your spirit. #BeTheEdge
