“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.”
I tried very hard to make this not about government leaders, especially with the intensity of the election taking place in just over a week. Can a political party be righteous or wicked? Probably not. Can policies? Certainly. More specifically, people not only can be, but they are. That being said, can righteous people make unrighteous decisions? Of course, at least for a season; otherwise, the righteous would never sin. Thankfully, the righteous do not make themselves that way. Scripture is clear that even the best thoughts, intentions, and behaviors of the most holy person are like a filthy rag before the righteousness of God. The righteous person simply reflects that quality from their Savior. I have heard the groaning of good people when certain individuals have won elections. Understanding a person’s positions, recognizing that we are not privileged to truly know their heart, and running their actions through the grid of Scripture is the way we should determine whom we vote for. In the end, we trust that God works through the hearts of all leaders. At times, it can serve as collective discipline to those claiming Him without His truth. Today, trust that God is in control and be sure you are living the righteous life of your Father. #BeTheEdge
