Proverbs 29:26 NIV

“Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.”

In John chapter 5 Jesus heals a lame man. This man sat on his mat all day waiting for the water to be disrupted in the pool down below. He longed for someone to get him into it before any of the multitude of others waiting to be the first one in. The first in was supposed to be healed. Jesus walked up to him and asked if he wanted to be healed. Without recognizing that the answer to that question is standing right beside him he goes into whining about why he can’t be. I’m amazed by how often I tend to forget this lesson and look to someone or something to meet a need that I have in my life or ministry. As I pursue people, often very good and godly people, I occasionally forget to consult the one standing right beside me who holds not only the answer but all answers, even to the ones I haven’t asked. As in this verse I have occasionally looked to people to meet a need while forgetting Jesus is the one asking “do you want…”. Thankfully we see the heart of God revealed in the John 5 story. Even though the man was complaining and sharing excuses Jesus was undeterred in his compassion. He proceeded to heal the man in spite of his lack of awareness. Thankfully God’s compassion and patience is at work in our story as well. He often meets our needs even when we didn’t remember to ask. Today look for your needs to be met by God. #BeTheEdge

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” Jesus
