Proverbs 30:3 NIV

“I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.”

There is false humility, and there is genuine humility. Theologians sometimes refer to this as radical humility. When we recognize God and the depth of His wisdom—a wisdom we can only begin to glimpse—it is accompanied by a humility that can only shake its head and stand in awe. As followers of Christ, our relationship with Him and His Father starts with humility. We recognize, much like the alcoholic, our problem or deficiency and, in so doing, open ourselves up for Him to begin His work in us. The writer of this proverb is generally considered by some to be Solomon, while other theologians believe it was a mysterious figure about whom we know very little. If it is Solomon, he would certainly have had room to brag and be proud. This verse would demonstrate that he truly understood that on his best day, and with his finest wisdom, he still fell far short of God. The reason Satan is who he is, is that he never understood humility and, in his pride, decided he would take God’s place. Obviously, that did not work out well. If we abandon humility and see ourselves as our own gods, we too find ourselves in a dangerous place. Many of the awful issues we face in the world today are the result of people believing they are their own god and then proceeding to live like it, causing those around them to suffer as a result of that arrogance. Today, practice radical humility and watch God live and work through you. #BeTheEdge
