Proverbs 30:6 NIV

“Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.”

I have been watching a lot of bible verses being thrown around on social media lately to justify one or another political position. Conversely, I have watched both the new CEO of Intel and a US Senator tweet out scripture verses with no commentary on social or political stances referenced. I must admit the second example is refreshing. God’s word shared freely and with no agenda other than His promise that once offered it will not returned empty of impact. The first group just tends to tick people off who do not agree with their political or sociological stance. I do firmly believe God’s infallible truth should inform all of our thinking, including politics. I do not think it is our job to beat up the lost or other believers with it. Thankfully only God’s spirit can touch and change hearts. We can at times harden them through adding our perspective, which can be influenced by our own backstory and cultural traditions. Certainly there are times when we should boldly speak God’s truth into broken and hurting humanity. More often those same people need to see God’s loving kindness in His people before they have any interest in our thoughts. I have watched as some peoples use a particular verse or story from scripture and find myself scratching my head and saying, “how in the world did they twist that to get there?” It is more than dangerous, it is disobedience and sin. A very dangerous one at that. Today as the old saying goes, “preach the gospel and only when necessary use words”. #BeTheEdge

“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.” Revelation‬ ‭22:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
