“Two things I asked of You, do not refuse me before I die:” Proverbs 30:7 NASB
My bucket list is short and pretty basic. A week in a cottage on the beach in Key West and…. Well, maybe it does get pretty long when I start to think it through. What do you find on you wish list before you die? Agur, our writer, goes much higher than things and stuff. He goes for a lifestyle of character. Lying, deception, and likewise; things that would reflect poorly on his God. He knew that a life marked by dishonesty would throw everything about him and the God he served into doubt and disgrace. He wanted nothing in his story to reflect poorly on his Creator. He also asks for a life that would not set him up for temptation, disavowing his Creator by his actions. Neither poverty nor riches, but instead a lifestyle where he could find contentment and not be tempted to be deceptive or steal to meet his needs, or to be vain about his wealth. As we consider what we would request of God for our day today, and the remainder of our life, looking to what makes us better representatives of our Heavenly Father is a good place to start. Today, seek first His kingdom.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Jesus
