“then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”
This verse follows the command to honor God with the first fruits of your finances. It is the promised fulfillment of obedience. When Jennifer and I first married we joined a church that taught about tithing. We both grew up in and around churches that never mentioned it. Needless to say it was a revolutionary concept to us. We were relatively young in the faith and still at the stage where if God said it we did it. Actually not a bad way to live. I’m striving to live that way still. At that time we knew we had not been giving the way we were supposed to so we began giving 10%. Knowing we were way behind in that and following what we believed was the Lords leading we began increasing that amount by 1% a year. As newly married with our first child arriving 11 months after saying our “I do’s” things were certainly tight. We held onto what we believed God wanted us to do and he carried us financially through those years. After 10 years we were challenged by the reality of spirit led giving. God did not ask for a tenth of anything else in our lives. It was all His and with 10% as our minimum we tried to hear from Him each month on what and where to give. He has blessed us to the point of embarrassment at times. Today recognize all you have is God’s and seek what He would have you do with it regularly. #BeTheEdge
