“Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.” Proverbs 4:10 NIV
Anyone else read this and think it said something like: “If the election goes your way, if the group agrees with your opinion, or even if you get your way, the years of your life will be many.” Nope, not what it says at all. This is a conditional statement, though. Listen to and accept, live by and act upon God’s Truth, and you will live long. That’s His plan. Solomon goes on to say, “When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.” (vs. 12) God makes lots of other promises in this and the other 65 books in this collection of His inspired writings. Nothing, in case you missed that I will repeat it, nothing, not a single thing will determine your story other than God, in conjunction with your obedience to His instruction. One more time, nothing. Did your candidate win or lose? I repeat, nothing. We serve a God who is higher than the universe and is certainly bigger than one election cycle. I’m putting a little longer verse at the end of this devotional to encourage you today to live out the truth of this verse. Today, listen and obey. #BeTheEdge
“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.” 1 Timothy 2:1-3 MSG
