“When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.”
This doss not feel like a description of my life. Hampered steps and stumbling runs seem to be the norm throughout much of my journey. Solomon is telling us that living by his fathers wisdom and understanding will keep that from happening. Perhaps you, like me, have had an incorrect view of what stumbling and hampered steps look like for the follower on God’s journey. I saw a comic strip the other day that showed a man standing on the beach with Jesus. Jesus was explaining what they were looking at in the sand. He said, “Where you see one set of footprints I was carrying you. Where you see that long groove I dragged you kicking and screaming.” Cute but too often true in my story. The core truth in this verse and chapter is that our journey is not a disparate group of occurrences. For the redeemed in the hands of our sovereign God stumbles and struggles are all redeemed pieces of the journey. Everything, the monotonous daily “grind” and the spectacular interruptions, are designed points on God’s sovereign design for our lives. Walking in wisdom helps it all make sense. Today live in wisdom and wonder. #BeTheEdge
