Proverbs 4:4 NIV

“Then he taught me, and he said to me, ‘Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.’”

Dads have a number of biblical responsibilities. These responsibilities extend to wives, daughters, and sons—but most especially to sons. Solomon is sharing here what David taught him, and what he is now teaching his own son. I am an evangelist by gifting and at heart. On spiritual inventory tests, it is off the charts compared to what’s next. In the early days of ministry, I allowed that to become an excuse for not doing much in the way of discipleship. I also rationalized it with the fact that I had not been discipled after coming to Christ. I didn’t discover the opportunity of walking daily in intimacy with God—in His Word and in prayer—until I followed who would turn out to be my wife when she went to a campus ministry at our college. As a result of that experience, much of what I did with young people in ministry involved Bible studies, helping both of us learn more deeply about God and who He is. Now, working with The Edge Ministry, we do events for sure, but a large portion of what we do is pouring into men and women in business—seeking to help them grow in their faith, with the byproduct of influencing their workplace through that faith. Rehoboam was Solomon’s son and successor. The kingdom of Israel ended up divided under Rehoboam, primarily because he did not listen to the earlier wisdom of his father, but instead followed his later example of sin and rebellion. Today, find a mentor who walks intimately with the Lord—connect that with digging into God’s truth and follow His lead together. #BeTheEdge
