“For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.” Proverbs 5:23 NIV
In the book, “Man’s Search for Meaning,” by Dr. Viktor Frankl, a psychoanalyst who was imprisoned in a concentration camp in WWII, one of the points he made was that, “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Pretty profound, right? I mean this guy was tortured and watched evil and the suffering associated with it daily, for years. We live a life filled with stimulus that requires a response. Lack of discipline brings about destruction more than growth and freedom. God has designed us as beings that are able to do more than just respond. He has built into His followers a clear vision of sin and its consequences. A brief survey of His Word makes that very clear. In the days of the Exodus, the leaders of the Israelites placed one tribe on one side of a valley wall and another group on the other ridge and had the Israelites pass between them. One group hurled down God’s curses that would follow if they ignored His commands, while the other yelled down His blessings they would experience for obedience. They entered the promised land with both ringing in their heads. We could all probably benefit from starting our day on that walk through the pass. Even better, the indwelling Holy Spirit whispers caution and blessing as we navigate our daily story. Today, live the disciplined life of a Christ follower and experience His unhindered blessing in your journey. #BeTheEdge
