Proverbs 6:4 NIV

“Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.”

Ever make a commitment and wish you hadn’t? It can be one of many different kinds. Financial and time commitments are two of the biggest. Later, after you realize you wish you didn’t, you may look for a way out. Some go the legal route. Others just walk away. Occasionally, we may want to just ghost the person or people we committed to. In this verse, Solomon is talking about somebody who actually incurred a debt on behalf of someone else. They certainly wished they hadn’t. Solomon’s counsel is contrary to what we see too often these days. Solomon doesn’t say run from it, ignore it, lie about it, or try to get out of it another way. Solomon says work to fulfill your commitment as quickly as you can and learn from it. That’s being responsible. It can also be a powerful testimony. I recently learned of a businessman who had made a financial decision only to find out he had not received all the information he should have. He regretted getting into that situation, but blamed only himself for not doing as much due diligence as he felt he should have. Nonetheless, he fulfilled his end of the deal and quickly moved on. Those engaged, and even some who weren’t but were aware, admired how he handled the situation and knew without a doubt it was because he was a faithful follower of God and could do nothing else. Today, take responsibility for your bad decisions and don’t run from them. #BeTheEdge

“When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.”‭‭ Numbers‬ ‭30‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬
