Proverbs 6:6 NIV

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” Proverbs 6:6 NIV

The power of this verse is the reminder that we do not work for our boss or a company. We work for God. Sure, unless you’re self-employed, our paycheck and reviews come from someone in authority above us on the flow chart. But our work responsibilities are a direct gift from God. Yep, I said gift. God built us for work. I had a great conversation yesterday with a guy who runs his own company. He was replaying for me a conversation he had with a pastor who made him feel like a second level citizen in the Kingdom because he worked in business rather than the pastorate. Thankfully I have never met a minister like that, but it was good to remind him that his work was every bit as much a calling to ministry as a conventional full-time ministry job. I have been in full-time ministry most of my adult life. Most of that time I have had a small business venture of some sort, as well. I have been amazed at the opportunities to share Jesus through the business realm that would have never been available as a ‘ministry leader.’ God never separates the secular and sacred. Why do we? When you go to work today, be aware of those you owe a good day’s work for a fair day’s wage but never lose track that your main goal is to represent the God you serve in all you do. Today, let God enjoy your best efforts as a gift to Him for the gift of your job from Him. #BeTheEdge
