Proverbs 7:21 NIV

“With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.”

If we don’t know God’s truth, it can be very easy for someone to lead us astray. There’s no shortage of people who will twist His truth. A different word here or there in a passage of Scripture can completely change its meaning, making it inaccurate and even dangerous. Satan knew Scripture when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. If the Scripture he quoted had been interpreted the way Satan intended, it would have led Jesus to disobey God. However, you can’t fool the Word who became flesh by misusing the Word of God. How obvious is that? There are a lot of people in the world who know just enough Scripture, as the saying goes, to be dangerous. Of all the potential dangers in the universe, misusing, misunderstanding, and ultimately basing our lives on a distorted view of Scripture is among the greatest. Sadly, I believe there are people who will spend eternity separated from their Creator because they were led astray by the misuse of Scripture. As we saw with Jesus in the wilderness, Satan intentionally twists God’s Word to deceive us. It is true that the most dangerous lie is often 99% truth. In the story of building on the rock, Jesus tells us that those who build their lives on His Word will stand strong and survive the storms of life. He does not say those who build their lives on most of His Word. Houses and other buildings have collapsed because one part of the foundation was poorly built. Families have fallen because one area of the foundation of a marriage was ignored. Today, find your safety and security in all of God’s Word. #BeTheEdge
