“Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?”
I read that verse, and in my mind, I hear a voice shouting, “What are you doing, or what in the world were you thinking?” And it is a well-deserved question in every case. Wisdom would have every reason to get after me. I often should know better. However, that is not what this verse means or how it works. Thankfully. I think that reflects the way adults acted in my much younger days more than how my Heavenly Father does. This verse is primarily speaking to young people. I certainly need the admonition, but there is great comfort in recognizing the lengths God will go to in order to teach us. Notice also that wisdom is not hiding her knowledge—she is calling out in public places. I’ve noticed way too many unwise voices shouting on social media lately, and I’m talking about the “Christian” ones. My one piece of advice is that if you are a believer and think it’s your place to stake out some moral high ground about the political and relational conditions in our country or world today, don’t. You are not as holy as you must believe. My simple advice here is that if your side won, don’t gloat; and if your side lost, don’t whine. God is sovereign today and tomorrow. Today, listen to the voice of wisdom in God’s Word. #BeTheEdge
