Proverbs 9:14 NIV

“She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city,”

This doesn’t sound too bad. That is until you realize this is a verse in the middle of Solomon’s description of folly that ends in death. Much like wisdom, folly has her own home. Unlike wisdom she lazily sits there calling out to try and trip up those simple folks who were just going about their business. She imitates wisdom but does so poorly and will ill intent. Where wisdom leads to love and life, folly leads to emptiness and death. Todays world offers many substitutes to God. Most are obvious in their self serving emptiness however some have worked to be clever imitators. They are alluded to in that great cautionary passage that tells us the ways that seem right to man can, in the end, lead to death. The other thing that our writer points out is that she is not hidden. Folly is out in the open, set on the high places in the city. There is a tremendous lack of shame in todays world, just watch a moment of the Grammys or any awards show. It’s almost bewildering how blatant the sinful are. Especially with the really ugly sins. At times I think folly has overplayed her hand, that no one is fooled by the brazenness of sin publicly promoted. But, then I see how many embrace it. Today stand firm and be the light of Wisdom. #BeTheEdge
