“Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you.”
A few years ago I had a staff do something very foolish and they should have known better. What they did could potentially have put them out of ministry and caused the solid reputation of our ministry to have taken a very bad hit. I had a meeting where I very gently shared the risk that was taken and the more appropriate way to have handled the situation. The person immediately reacted not only defensively but arrogantly and with great disrespect. Needless to say that was not a proper response. Soon after I had another staff make a different, albeit also poor, decision. We discussed it. He apologized and more importantly appreciated the wisdom in considering how to better handle that issue moving forward. Today the second person is flourishing and doing powerful ministry. The first runs a shell of a former ministry while it withers and dies. These two represent exactly who Solomon was referring to. However the value of his example as well as the two former staff I shared about is to evaluate your life and how you respond to rebuke and correction. Scripture tells us God is patient but we also know there is a limit to His patience. Today recognize Godly correction and respond wisely and live in His love. #BeTheEdge
