“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.”
This is not a suggestion that you or I start telling everyone what they don’t know. It is not meant to imply that everyone wants your “wisdom” imparted to them. It is obvious that only someone with godly wisdom has anything of value to add to another’s wisdom and knowledge. Identifying who those people are in our lives is a task, and knowing who is wise enough to desire input in their lives are both vital to this truth. To put it simply, there is a burden on both the wisdom giver and the wisdom receiver that is a prerequisite for what initially may appear simple. If you are like me, I don’t readily take counsel from those I don’t know or have a history with. In reality, I do receive it from historical figures who were known for their wisdom. I also don’t share with those I have not earned the right to be heard by. There is also a clear understanding that this verse refers to a childlike person—the kind Jesus spoke of. That comes with humility and a willingness to learn. For all the mental gymnastics in figuring out who qualifies in this verse, thankfully, God authors not only the wisdom and the wise, He also connects the two. Today, learn humbly and share carefully. #BeTheEdge
