Proverbs 10:13 NASB

“On the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who has no sense.” Proverbs 10:13 NASB

The dictionary says, “Discerning is an adjective that means able to discern—recognize small details, accurately tell the difference between similar things, and make intelligent judgements by using such observations.” I had lunch a couple days ago with an old friend and a new one. I listened as one shared a very current challenge, one that I believe most parents, who are aware, face to one degree or another. As I listened, I had the overwhelming impression that I was hearing great counsel from a depth of experience and equipping that I was grateful to sit in the presence of. As we moved on to the purpose of the lunch, I looked forward to hearing more of the depth of insight both of those men had to share. These were truly discerning men. I recognized the formula that Solomon refers to throughout his writings in these men: years of experience in walking with the Lord through many of life’s challenges, significant time mining wisdom from God’s Word and His people and practicing obedience to what He reveals. I have come to value the wisdom of the discerning above almost anything else in my faith journey and I seek to be around them as often as possible. Today, think about who those people are in your story and consider spending more time with them. #BeTheEdge
