Proverbs 11:31 NASB

“If the righteous will be repaid on the earth, How much more the wicked and the sinner!” Proverbs 11:31 NASB

I’m not a huge proponent of the King James Version of the Bible. However, there are times when its translation does seem to capture a bit of the intent of the writer that some later translations may not. In the King James, this verse is the only one in Proverbs to start with the attention-grabbing word, ‘Behold!’ It is intended to tell the reader (listener) that they are about to encounter both an evident and eminent truth. In other words, in the same way the declaration by Jesus of ‘Verily, verily’ meant ‘don’t miss this,’ Solomon is also saying ‘don’t miss this.’ Then he shares the much-needed truth that the righteous do, at times, receive the reward of their obedient living, and the wicked, in the same way, receive the penalty for their sin here on Earth – the guaranteed results are reserved for the next life. Sometimes the justice of God is seen in the results of sin on earth. There is a witness to the reality of God in this truth. On the other hand, I have heard many times over the years the question – if God is just, how can evil people flourish. The two sides to that are: 1. Even though they appear to flourish materially, etc. most are hurting internally and 2. There is an eternity awaiting them that truly makes the Christ follower tremble. Today, live righteously and rest in the understanding that God has your reward firmly in place. #BeTheEdge
