Proverbs 10:19 NIV

“Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.”‬‬

There is a saying that when you find yourself in a hole quit digging. The more we talk trying to explain a situation or excuse a behavior the worse it gets and the guiltier we sound. More words seldom lead to a better explanation or truthfulness. It tends to indicate guilt. There are very few situations where more words are helpful even on good occasion. When you get an owners manual do you read it? All of it? How about instructions for just about anything? Like me most of us go to the quick start page, a short list of step by step instructions. The many worded documents are not meant to truly help us, they are designed to protect someone. A lot of speech feels the same. When twitter first came out I had my staff all sign up. I did not want them sharing political or even moral beliefs on social media. I did want them to learn to communicate clear thoughts with the required brevity of the app.. A few clear words of truth are powerful. Many words to explain, justify or cover guilt and sin are self indicting. Take your guilt and apologize or confess to anyone you hurt and seek forgiveness and reconciliation. Don’t excuse. And confess and repent to God. Today speak truth in love. #BeTheEdge

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.” James‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬
